What do you think about school/college? Everyone please look (I want old/young response.)?

I’m a college student going for a degree in finance. Now with a finance degree there are many career choices I have that will enable me to make a great amount of money.

Why do parents/teachers push so hard for kids to go to school?

Now I’m not knocking school or saying it is a bad thing, but it seems like many times these people push kids to go to school, but give them no direction. I know many people that spend 50-100k on a college degree, but end up doing something like human resources making 18 dollars an hour. Now why is there not more emphasis and direction on what kind of jobs to get to make a good salary. I know sales people that make 80,000 or much more per year and yet people who in my opinion wasted there time in school to make 30 or 40k a year. I don’t see the point in one wasting all that time, money, and energy in school if they are going to settle for a job with that kind of pay, with a few exceptions exmp. if they have a sincere and great pasion for that field.

If everyone that went to college got only a-list jobs, who would do the grunt work?

Sometimes people who go to college are only smart enough to do those 18 dollar an hour jobs (which really aint too shabby).

A teacher or parent shouldn’t tell a child what to go to school for, they should leave it up to the individual.

If I could have afforded to go to college, who knows what I would have become.

This is actually quite odd for me because all of my friends were pushed to get good grades and go to University, but my parents didn’t really want me to go.

In Australia you get a loan from the government that you pay back when you start working (so they didn’t have an excuse of no money).

I think I’m much better off for having gone to uni, and I can’t imagine that I would be earning as much today as what I am if I had left school when I was 16 but I don’t think that would be the best decision for everyone.

I do think it’s a shame that there is so much stress on higher education, as we have a serious shortage of skilled tradespeople.
