Too much homework?!?

My 9th grader had 4 hours of English homework last night. An open book test with 24 questions that had to be answered in paragraphs, a worksheet and an autobiography prologue and letter of introduction. This is ridiculous. He didn’t have time for any other subject.

I actually had the same thing happen to me in the beginning of grade nine. As a class we told the teacher that there was way too much homework for one night and that everyone in the class had spent their entire night on that one subject and she agreed it was ridiculous. She told us if it ever happened again to not spend more than an hour or so on it but it never did happen again. I’d have him try to speak with the teacher.

Due to the huge variety in tasks (an autobiography prologue vs. an open book test???) from the one subject, it seems like your 9th grader had a lot of overdue work, and the teacher had given him an ultimatum to hand in the following day or else.

Take it from a current student: your son was probably behind in his English work.

I would talk to the adviser and tell him/her how much he is getting a night.

He/she will talk to the teachers, or he/she should.
