First off, if you have to memorize dates, your teacher is a complete useless tool. History is NOT dates. You can always look online or in a book for dates. People need to learn WHY things happened, and how they are relevant.

Highlight key points, like, the causes, effects, and the solutions. When trying to memorize maps, choose one place and start remembering the places above to them, next to them, below, etc. etc.

Karl Marx mentioned: in bourgeois society (i.e. us), the beyond dominates the reward. This signifies that, within the modern-day global, we commonly use historical past as a kind of “hero worship” or “ancestor worship.” History is not such a lot “the details” or “the beyond” as it’s what we make of the beyond. Nobody cared approximately “historical past” till the upward thrust of country-states and nationalism. Through historical past, the bourgeoisie — primarily via obligatory schooling — needs that every one residents gain knowledge of an “legitimate” tale of the country. It is not foremost for this tale to be correct; it’s only foremost that scholars gain knowledge of to be patriotic. This is why US historical past has continuously ignored many voices from the beyond, considering that there have continuously been many dissenters who had been very significant of the USA — females, blacks, the indigenous, the running elegance, foreigners, or even a few compassionate white men. But the “legitimate” tale best needs you to gain knowledge of methods to be proud. The State feeds off of the legitimate tale considering that the legitimate tale makes it seem just like the State represents the country; while in precise reality the State best represents the side of the country represented within the legitimate tale. The entire cliche approximately “finding out from our beyond” is bull$h!t. Telling a patriotic “legitimate” tale is the special reverse; if you’re real patriotic, you’re depending on dangerous or faulty historical past and you’re no longer finding out any courses. Some men and women research the beyond considering that they wish to set the list immediately and so they wish to comprise extra voices within the historic narrative. Usually those histories are dubbed “radical” considering that they do not jive with the State-backed variant. So, as you’ll see, at the same time bourgeois society is obsessive about the beyond, it attempts to hide up the truth that its variant of the beyond is continuously motivated by way of the politics of the reward. So, when you have a challenge with anything in these days, you’ll research the historical past of that matter and with a bit of luck make clear it, however this have to be performed out of moral obligation, no longer blind patriotism. Also, historical past does NOT repeat itself. That is one other bourgeois travesty! People make historical past; we aren’t simply cogs in a cyclical method! Don’t get me improper; there ARE courses to be discovered. But the ones courses aren’t inherent. In cutting-edge America, many men and women are pronouncing that Obama is like Hitler considering that he’s “charismatic” and “socialist” however they forget about that Hitler was once in precise reality a nationalist capitalist. Likewise, they forget about that Marx talked approximately overthrowing the State, and so they effortlessly anticipate that Communism = Stalinism, and consequently communism is fascist. Whereas it was once truthfully Stalin’s nationalistic vigour clutch that was once fascist. You see in which that is going . . . we, within the reward, are very selective of what courses we gain knowledge of from the beyond.
