Kate,

Hey my name is Heather. Im a senior at the University of Guam and President of the Triton’s Society. Organization is not as hard as some may thing all it takes is a little creativity. Go to your office supply store and roam around the aisles until you get some ideas. One of the things I like to do to my binders to make my life easier is print out calendars (one month per page) so I can keep track of my assignments, special projects, meetings, and test dates.

They also have inserts for binders where you can store pens, floppy disks, CDs, and more. Use those inserts for their assigned purposes or create new uses for them. One idea is use the floppy disks sheet protectors to hold flash cards, use the CD sheet protectors to hold pictures, reminder cards, you own personal contact sheets for each class, and other small papers that you would need to see.

I hope this helps you get organized. If you have anymore questions feel free to email us back. Good luck!

Best Regards,

Heather Cawood

Get one of those Mead binders where you can fit all of your notebook paper and folders right in it. Separate your notebook paper for each class with the folder for that class to keep your notes organized. A must must MUST for me when I was in high school, and even now at 25, is to have an assignment book/calendar. I can’t tell you how much easier it made things! NEVER assume you’ll remember an assignment. I’m a teacher now and I can’t tell you how many times my 8th grade students forget what the assignment is and has their parents email me. Always have sharpened pencils and working pens on hand. It’s really frustrating to the teacher when a student has to sharpen his or her pencil in the middle of class, and when that happens, you’ll miss something important because the teacher won’t wait. Clean out your folders and bookbag regularly. Don’t leave papers in your books…you’ll lose them or forget about them! (“Miss C.! I found my homework from 2 weeks ago right here in my book!”)

Have fun! I LOVED 8th grade! 🙂

Begin your sorting at home. Buy folder racks and classify them according to day of the week, by activity, by subject, or by name. You may also place items in a big envelope and give an identification or name. Place them in you folder rack. This way, you wont be bringing all your essentials and it will facilitate as to when you will bring them to school.
