Should a 6th grader bring his/her phone to school?

The phone is very fancy…not sure if it should be brought. His/her is allowed to keep it in thr pocket not in the bakpak tho.

So should a 6th grader bring it to school?

I must respectfully disagree with most of the answerers.

As a teacher in an inner city, I believe a 6th grader should be able to carry their cell phone and STORE it IN THEIR LOCKER – to be used for emergency only.

I can’t tell you how many children miss a bus or are waiting for a ride that is late; many times their will be an early dismissal due to inclement weather in winter – and some parents are hard to reach. YES, the school can intervene with a phone call – but to foster independence I believe a cell phone can be brought to school and kept in a locker. It should not be kept in a pocket or backpack.

Take it from a teacher with 25+ years of experience with this grade level. A cell phone in class can cause trouble for even the most responsible 6th grader. It could get lost or stolen. Even the responsible student will be tempted to sneak in a text message. This , of course, is against school policy. If there is a real family emergency it can be handled through the school as it has been done since the beginning of public schooling.

No, there is no need for a 6th grader to have a cell phone at school. Besides it causing problems among other students, or the possibility of it being stolen, the student could use the office phone if there was an emergency. Why else would a 11/12 year old need a phone at school?

Is there a reason the 6th grader would need to bring a cell phone to school? I can’t think of any. Schools DO have phones students can use during emergencies, ya know.

No,

Even if the school allows it, it is too easy to have the 6th grader misplace it or put it where someone else can take it. My daughter only took a phone on days when she was going to be gone for sports so that she could call us in time for us to meet the bus at the school when it got back late.

Sometimes, the phones come in handy during an emergency. However, the phone should be turned off and hidden. It should not be used in the school building during the day. Make sure your child understands the phone is for emergencies and not to show off.

No, and no. They end up being disruptions in class. The students text one another. Yes they can do it with the phone hidden in their pocket. Also the school you will want to check the school’s policy on cell phones. They are not permitted at our school.

Personally, I don’t think so. A 6th grader isnt that mature yet and could possibly get it taken away.

YES. It can be used in emergencies. With all the child assault a kid would want a cell phone with them. Not to mention the social importance
