I’m guessing its genetic, you have pretty horrible grammar. Dont know what you can do about that…..

Really just get him reading lots of books, and practice. Some kids just arent good spellers.

Is he quite creative? What I mean is that if he writes creative stories then he may just allow his thoughts to run away whilst he’s creating his stories or essays….this is what happened to me as a child. I’m now a writer by proffesion and growing up, I found speliing and grammar nothing but an irritation…it slowed me down so I used to just forge ahead without it.

If this is not the problem, is he reading enough? Reading is the best way to become good at spelling…

Spelling mastery is tideous… start with a lot of encouragement, let him read good books or magazines, discourage him to use “text/sms spelling.” Introduce new words to him, little by little (with the correct spelling) and how these words are used in a sentence. Lastly, don’t push him too hard.. he may cope well in his own right time. Goodluck!

Ask him to have a dictionary with him each time he is doing his work for reference. You can give him 5 new words suitable for his level at the beginning of a week to learn and you can test him out at the end of the week.Any word he gets wrong you add onto the following week but keep the total to 5.Once you see that he is improving, increase the number,.also encourage him to read more,

Help him think of nuemonics or abbreviations for certain words…..maybe a story related to certain words that would help him….

Also reviewing the rules with him so that when he spells a difficult word he reviews the rules in his head….although there are many words in the English language that are anomalies the majority of words fall within a very specific rule set.

People who generally read more books are better spellers than people who don’t read at all.
