Is this too hard for a second grader?

I’m tutoring a second grader as part of my education class and I still feel a little clueless as to what is the right amount of difficulty for a second grader. I decided to do an activity on homophones with him, here is an example…. Teachers, do you think this is too hard?

Homophones are words that sound the same, have a different spelling, and have a different meaning.

*Fill in the blank with the correct homophone

I don’t think that this is too hard at all. If you could…and if it’s available, try to go to the district’s website where you are tutoring. A lot of districts post their curriculum on-line outlining their scope and sequence (what the students should learn). By doing this you will be able to know exactly what a second grader should be learning. The last thing you want is give a student something to do just willy-nilly without a purpose.

If you feel that this activity is too difficult for the child than try to differentiate it somehow…change it up in such a way so that it is not too confusing.

Also, see if you can contact the student’s teacher and ask for some resources and/or suggestions. We teachers tend to be very giving (most of us at least).

I’m not a teacher but I don’t think that it would be too hard for a 2nd grader. I mean little kids are pretty smart these day’s . Smarter than we give them credit for thats for sure. They even know how to work a computer something I would of never dreamed of doing when I was in elementary in the late 60’s

Hi (Im a mum not a teacher ) I dont know how old a second garder would be but my 8yr old might have problems with questions 2 they`re is aberviated not really a word, and 7 she would prob put cold and soup. Sorry not more help

I think he would probably have fun with it.

It might be a little hard at the beginning for him, but he’ll probably pick up on it quickly. That’s the point of teaching–to challenge students. If you’re never challenged, you never learn.

The questions seem alright. If the kids have trouble answering it. Yes it is too hard for them. If you are going to have a long time to do the lesson, go right ahead. If you are just introducing it… Its WaAAy to hard.
