If you feel that this activity is too difficult for the child than try to differentiate it somehow…change it up in such a way so that it is not too confusing.
Also, see if you can contact the student’s teacher and ask for some resources and/or suggestions. We teachers tend to be very giving (most of us at least).
It might be a little hard at the beginning for him, but he’ll probably pick up on it quickly. That’s the point of teaching–to challenge students. If you’re never challenged, you never learn.
