In today’s society, do the vast majority of high school dropouts go back to night school for GED’s?

We always hear about the high school dropout rates, but it is virtually impossable to find employment without a high school diploma or GED. Therefore, are these figures really skewed because most people wind up going back in one form or another to gain at least a GED? Or, do most dropouts in the USA never return to complete their education?

I dont know about all the numbers but as for what I know…

My 2 siblings and I all dropped out of high school. I eventually returned and got my diploma. My brother went to our local community college and got his “adult high school diploma” in half the time ‘regular’ school would have taken and my sister got her GED.

I also have several friends that got their adult high school diploma…it took much less time and they chose to do that. I dropped out to try that and I liked regular high school better.

My daughter got her GED last year. She is extremely smart and was so bored and not academically challenged in high school that she dropped out. She was ready for college when was a Freshman in high school. To get her GED, she purchased a GED study guide, studied for just a few days and passed her exams with flying colors.

She is now attending college whereas she would only be a Junior in high school if she didn’t dropout.

I am so darn proud of my girl!
