If a parent requests for their child to be put in a different classroom, for good reason…?
can the school make it difficult, or refuse?
I have doctors advise to do this, and a vary valid reason, not some whim or favoritism. I believe her Doc is right in advising her to change, the principal said we need big meetings with social workers. He is such an aas.

you as a parent have a right to call an IEP meeting and they only have 24 hours to set a day for this meeting. If you have even a doctors advise on this they cannot tell you no. Parents and children have rights. I have been through IEP meetings for years. If there is a medical reason it helps even more. Good luck and stick to your guns, they don’t always have the best ineterest of the child in mind and you know the child better than anyone.♥j

Our county has what they call an IEP (Individual Education Program). The child is required to have an illness which causes them to have either learning (Downs, for example) or behavioral issue (ADD/ADHD). It takes a lot of work with social, educational, medical and parental authorities but once in place, its a positive experience because the child receives better education when the teachers are aware of the potential problems. For example, some children with ADD/ADHD do not test well because they can’t focus. They’re not stupid but they just can’t sit still that long. An IEP might allow the student to take those tests in an environment where they are allowed to get up and stretch. Some complain that this is giving the child an unfair advantage. Not so. This just puts them on a level playing field with the other students. The IEP may also be as simple as switching a child from one mainstream class to another because that particular teacher just refuses to work with a “difficult” child. Don’t let the school bully you by complaining about the effort it takes to put this in place. As a tax payer, its your right to demand the best education for your child.

I don’t see why not. It’s the same with a child in a integrated class, and that child doesn’t feel successful learning with two teachers. Of course the child should have every right to switch class especially if that child doesn’t have special needs.
