The 3 options you’ve described seem like the options that would be available to you. Like the first answerer said, you can always leave college to go to the service but not the other way around. Also, if you decide to open door 3 and take a year off, you might have a little bit of time to think about what you want from life (alluding to answerer 2) and after the year is up you should have an idea if you don’t already have one.

The good thing about joining the military is that you can earn money for college so that if you were to consider attending college afterward, it would be much easier for you to do so.

In the end, it is your decision, and nobody else’s. Do what you feel will make you happy. But, if you think that your best choice might not be good in the long run, then maybe you should set up an appointment with a counselor at your high school and discuss your options with him/her.

Hope this helps.

The best answer I can give you is that you have to decide for yourself.

If you feel totally unmotivated and don’t have any direction for your life, then joining the military might be a good idea. It’s also a viable option if you’re interested in a field the military trains for – such as mechanic, electrical, computers, etc.

If you’re thinking about the military just to earn money for school but would rather be in college, keep in mind there is a lot of financial aid available for those who need it.

If you honestly don’t know what you want to do with your life, there is absolutely nothing wrong with just taking some time off to figure it out.

Another option worth considering is a trade school. You can learn a job in 6 months to 2 years and many even help with job placement.

It sounds like you want three squares a day and a place to lay your head for the night. Oh, and a very light income. You have two children to support and God only knows what else you have to pay for. If you think you can do all of that on a Sailor’s income, good luck. My suggestion is to get more education and /or trade school skills. Learn something that will make you marketable. There are jobs out there. You just have to find them. Do you know how much money an electrician makes? Or a plumber, machinist or mechanic? They make a very good living and are usually in high demand. Besides, you will be home where you can keep in touch with your children if you so desire, not off to some other part of the world for an undetermined time. Also, you won’t have to swim if you don’t want to.

I join the military after High School and I personally don’t think its worth it. Because in your first year of military you clean up the toilets, bathroom, and wash uniforms. Its really a hard work some toilets I cleaned looked like there were 10 people crapped at the same time, and yes it was horrible. But on the good side after a year or so, military life gets better, they train you and you don’t have to put up with cleaning. ALso there are benefits such as college tuition fee paid by the military which is cool. What ever goes through your heart you should follow, trust your insticnts.

My take would be go to a college that has ROTC. ROTC can help you some with financial aid, especially in Junior and Senior year. At the time, that I went to college you could do ROTC for the first two years without committing to the military. Even if you complete all four years in the ROTC, you have the option of serving your commitment on active duty (a shorter commitment) or in the reserves (which of course can be called to active duty). And if you complete ROTC, you go into the service as an officer rather than enlisted.

If you join the military, you can go to college after gaining the military experience and most will be payed for.

If you go directly to college, you pay out of pocket for everything. However, after you receive your degree, you could join the service and already be higher ranked just for going and getting your degree.

If this helps any, great! Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Hey Bex-

The service is a much more difficult commitment to get out of than college. You have to do what you feel is best for you though.

FYI- If you go to college then join the service, that’s good for rank advancement.

Take Care

If you go into the military you may end up fighting in a war and as always have the chance of dying….Going to college you have some other threats but I think you can live thru it….I’d say college but I’m open to hear more from you and discuss it if you’d like…

do wut u think is right but heres the pros and cons:

military:

pros

-servin ur country

-adventure

-excitement

-bonuses & benefits

-courage

-strength

-honor

-respect

-great pension

-honestly, where else in life are you ever gonna fire an m16?

-its kool!

cons

-crappy salary

-u cud die lol

college:

pros

-better salary for the future

-lots of friends

-beer!

cons

-lots of work

-stress

-*clears throat and takes deep breath* BOOOOOOOORING!

but hey listen, you can always go back 2 college at any age. college doesnt have legs its not gunna run away lol. plus you can use the military’s G.I bill option which makes your branch of the military pay for 75% of your tuition. only problem is that you will have 2 commit a few years of service if you use the G.I bill and the later you go back to college, the harder it is because you start 2 forget stuff.

go to college after high school because if somethin happens while ur in the army u cant be in the army no more ur not gonna have anything to fall back on and ur not gonna have a good job. ur gonna have to work at like mcdonalds or somethin. if u go to college u will have a good option to fall back on. also the army can give u scholarships and loans to go to college first.
