I have no idea which floor my class is on?

Okay, so my fellow classmates have already started a few days of school. And a few days ago was my first day of school. I just followed the rest of the class! But tomorrow is my second day of school and I have no idea which floor or where my homeroom or class is located! I know I sound so stupid, but I’m really afriad of embarassing myself. By the way, when school starts, everyone has to wait in this waiting area. And I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to go to the office and ask or if I’m even allowed in the school! There are so many kids waiting outside the school so I don’t know if I’ll be able to spot my friend. Please give me some advice!! I am usually a shy people so I just can’t go up to people I don’t know and ask. That would just be embarassing!! And also, I have this homework assignment that I don’t know how I should do. I don’t even know when its due!! On the first day of school, some teachers didn’t even notice me. I don’t even think that there was a new student!!

It’s okay! Don’t worry about it, ask an upperclassmen or teacher and they should have no problem helping you. Most likely, one of the latter would be glad to help. Or look for people that seem open to conversation or friendly – they’re usually not crossing their arms and may be smiling a bit or talking to one of their friends. I’m really reserved myself but getting to class on time is more important that being slightly embarrassed.

As for the waiting area, my school has that too. Explain it to the teacher on duty that you would like to go to the office and he or she should have no problem letting you.

And about your homework assignment, get it done. Whenever you’re in doubt if an assignment is due on a certain day or not, you will get it out of the way even if it’s not due the next day and will spare yourself from getting a 0 if that’s what your intention was.

When you move up a level in school, you often end up in a much larger building that seems completely illogical. In fact, most schools have a system for numbering their rooms. My school named each building so the rooms in Homefield were labelled H1, H2 etc and in Galbraith were labelled G1, G2 etc. Often different subjects are grouped in different areas.

It’s always worth asking if you’re lost. Older students can seem scary but for the most part they’re quite willing to help – they were in the same situation a few years back! If you’re school has prefects, spotting a kid with a prefect badge is also a good way to go.

You’ll find that teachers will be quite understanding to start off with about getting lost and the like. It might be worth going to ask the teacher who set the assignment for guidance, particularly if it was originally set before you started.

Don’t worry about it. On the second day of school, I was so nervous. I had no idea where I was going but I did get the hang of it. Once I walked about those stairs, I looked around and I just went with my instincts. I saw the people from my homeroom at their lockers so I knew where mine was. If you’re like really lost, just ask someone you know is nice. I’m pretty sure you’ll find someone from your grade at least and just ask. Trust me, it’s not a big deal. If you’re really not comfortable about it, just ask any teacher you see or a school staff member. You won’t be late but if you are, just explain to your teacher that you got lost or something. He/she will totally understand. If you do feel embarrass, don’t! It’s not like the other people around you haven’t got lost before or asked for help. If they laugh, they’re laughing with you not at you.

Good luck! 🙂

Ouch. I’m exactly the same way.

The best thing to do, I’ve found, is to plan out what you’re going to say ahead of time and who you’re going to say it to (maybe a teacher?). That way, when you say it, you sound like you know exactly what you’re talking about and it’s not embarrassing at all.

Also, is it possible to just follow the crowd again? After a while, it’ll be a habit going where you need to go, and you can do it by yourself.
