I am scared to sing in front of people?

I love to sing when no one is around, I think I sound good, I sound good in choir to. I am taking choir in school, I went to open house today, and my choir teacher told me that I will have to sing alone in front of everybody in choir, she kept telling me everyone has to do it. But I am still freakin’ scared! I bombed the auditions for High School Musical play at my school, but since it was a school thing I got in and became a cheerleader. How do I face my fear without turning red!?!?!!?? PLEASE HELP!!!

One thing that helped for me (I’ve been in the same situation) was to close my eyes. Not only does it help you focus on the words, but take some time and clear your head of where you are.

Picture yourself in your bedroom singing to the music on the radio. It’ll help you remember your lyrics, let loose, and get past your fear of performing.

Only after you’re done should you remember that you were in front of people. Then you can think to yourself “I sung in front of people and did a great job!” That makes it easier for the next time.

Good luck!

Take a deep breath before you go up on stage and give yourself a pep talk. Tell yourself you can do it and that you will be able to overcome your fear. And once you’re on stage, try looking at the wall behind the audience so you look like you’re looking at them but not exactly. Once you’re in the middle of the first verse or when you start the chorus look at the people who are watching you. Find your choir teacher, he/she will probably smile at you. When s/he smiles at you smile back at him/her.

Once you’re smiling, find your parents after them, find your best friend. Once you’ve found all these people look at the people you don’t know. Trust me, even if you think your knees are as solid as jello if you smile people would probably think that this person is super confident and believes in herself. Confidence is the key!

Good luck!

P.S.

You auditioned for your school’s production of High School Musical? Cool! Me too! 😀

If you are nervous and embarrassed, and your face turns red when you feel that way, then probably your face will turn red. I doubt you have control over that. Perhaps you could ask the choir teacher for suggestions about how to deal with your problem.

I’m a 700+ year old Sasquatch (In my own mind ;-)) and I still have fears of singing in front of others. For many of us, it is natural.

I have written some 25 +/- songs and I don’t mind lending out tapes/CD’s. But it takes a bit to sing in front of others. You are not alone.

Sometimes we fear ridicule from others. Other times we lack belief in our abilities.

Know that you are as good as (or better) than everyone else taking part in this. You are likely better than most of the audience. Believe in YOU! The audience wants to hear and applaud you.

If it helps, imagine everyone else sitting there in their underwear. Works for me and even after a whole lot of years, I still have a bit of fear.

Good Luck,

The Ol’ Sasquatch Ü

I just did that kind of thing in my quior today. but u just have to no, that you are in the chior to learn how to be a better singer. The worst that will happen, is that people will say you didnt sound that great and here is ways to get better or somethin like that. Not everyone is going to do imazingly, so just make sure you know that and try your best. Just think about hitting the notes and the music, and you will be fine.

i know exactly how you feel. i sing around the house, car etc. all the time. a couple years ago my friend asked me if i could sing and i was like yeah. so she asked me if i could sing for her because she was moving away. so i did it and afterward she was like wow omg and got everyone in my class to gather around to here me sing again. she put me on spot and i couldn’t just shy out there so i just pretended i was in the shower singing and didnt think of all them at all and it worked. i know people say stuff like that all the time but it really does work if you just don’t think about it being in front of an audience

I am also very shy in front of people sometimes to. Ask you’re teacher if you could go up with a friend. Another thing that helps me is I watch a friend go up first, then I just say if they can do it with no problems, then so can I. Then when I go up I have no problem.
