You’ve gotten a lot of good advice. Read. Read and as you come across words you don’t know, write them down. Look up the meaning and pronounciation. I used index cards and referred back to them for studying. Review the dictionary and do the same for any unfamiliar words. See what reading materials the English students are doing and read some of their books so you know what level you need to be caught up to. Focus on using English and speaking properly. Avoid using text like “u” and “LOL” to keep you on track. Get a tutor if your parents can afford it. Maybe you or they know of someone who might volunteer their services. And keep reading and practicing. Good luck!

There are several books that just list words that you can use as a guide. They are like dictionaries, but don’t give word definitions, just the correct spelling, and also incorrect spellings so you won’t make mistakes. One very good one is called “HOW TO SPELL IT” by Harriet Wittels & Joan Greisman. If you don’t want to carry a book around in your backpack, there are also sheets of words that you can slip into your notebook for reference. These lists save a lot of time and a lot of space (usually available at any Teacher’s store).

Here are the directions on the book I suggested:

Look up a word the way you think it should be spelled in the alphabetical listing. If you spelled the word incorrectly, it is shown in black, and the correct spelling is shown in red.

Very easy to use.

Read a LOT of books in English, and make sure your spell-check is always on. If it underlines a word, look at how you spelled it and try to correct it without right-clicking.

Firefox has a built-in spellcheck.

Tell your parents that you need a tutor. It is very important to read as much as possible. Reading teaches you spelling and grammar among other things.

start with easier words, put them on flashcards and study a little every day.
