How long should you wait for a response from an interview thank you letter before getting worried?
I sent out a thank you letter right after an interview last Sunday. I have yet to hear back from the person I interviewed with and am getting worried. I ask a question as instructed by the interviewer, so I would think she would have gotten back to me. Could the fact that the interview didn’t go as well as I had hoped have something to do with it? It would be highly unprofessional for her to not respond to me even if the interview was not great. This was a voluntary interview with a business school, not for a job.

Unfortunately many interviewers will not respond if your candidacy doesn’t continue – regardless of what they may say. However, it may take some time for the interviewer to get back with you. I don’t know the specifics of their process but take in consideration how many interviews they may have conducted (or if they are still conducting interviews), etc. If it is an application for business school I would suggest calling the admissions office about 2 weeks after your interview and asking them “what the next steps are.” I would *not* ask them directly to comment about the state of your application although they may volunteer this information. If they say that decisions have been made, you of course can ask how your application faired.
