How does my petition sound?

I, Jordan ******, am a student at ***** ******* High School. I have started this petition with the hope that it would add a new seal to the possible two you can receive at graduation. Many other schools in (state) offer a Fine Arts Seal, such as W****** County, Central, and C****** County High Schools. Many students at ********** High School are active in Drama and Art, but not Agriculture, Business Education, etc., which are required for an extra seal. The proposed Fine Arts Seal would require four credits of Fine Arts, similar to the Career Tech Seal. I believe in equal opportunities for every student, even if their future vocational goals don’t include farming, typing, or teaching.

I tried to star out all the personal information, so use your imagination. Tell me what I should change though!

basically okay but if you want people to sign the petition you need to have a “we the undersigned” somewhere in there. the way it’s written may make it seem as though you want the credit for having the new seal approved and people may not want to sign. you need to have “we” in there somewhere. after all, i sign a petition because I believe something, not because i’m doing a favor for someone else.

I agree with the above. You need to remove your name and instead use “We, the undersigned students of *** High School”

Have you discussed this with your principal? What about the Fine Arts department. I think your goal is a perfectly acceptable one! There should be a seal for fine arts!

If you haven’t already, I would definitely ask the powers that be what they would need to make this happen. Signatures? How many? Perhaps you could speak at a school board meeting? Who decides what ‘seals’ are appropriate? Your school or the local dept of education?

Sounds like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders. Just be sure to do a little research!

Have you discussed your idea with the people who will receive the petition? They might be interested. Also see what your Fine Arts teachers think. They will probably agree with you and that is another avenue of approach.

If you go the petition route it is not necessary to include your name in the body of the petition. Signing the petition first let people know that you were the author.

Good luck.

Hasn’t President Bush taught you anything? We don’t make the rules. The leaders make the rules. So if they like your petition because it benefits them financially, then they’ll do it. If it doesn’t, then no amount of names will get your petition passed.

Just so you know, this seal stuff is completely foreign to me. Hopefully you’re not wasting time on something that 99.9% of people (especially admissions counselors) have never heard of either.
