HIGH School in January!?

Heya

Just a quick question in regards to American High Schools. I’m an Aussie student who will be attending high school ( senior year) in January 2008 on exchange. I know its a stupid question but i was just wondering if it was a busy time of year- cause you guys will have just gotten back from new year and stuff. I have no idea because this period is our major holiday. Just wanted to know what to expect- heaps of sport? assessments? School events? What? Thanks heaps in advance!

Usually January is the start of a new semester, so things should be on the upswing not at full speed yet. Finals and midterms shouldn’t be for at least a month. Dunno where in America you’re going, but January’s midwinter so I think don’t think there’d be a ton of sports (unless you’re into winter sports, ((is there even much of that in Australia?))).

I’m sure people will help you through any difficulties though.

Good luck!

Well, remember that January here in the states is winter time, so if its a northern school it’ll probably be pretty snowy. If its farther south that probably won’t matter as much.

Sports wise for high schools are usually Basketball, Wrestling, Hockey and Skiing/Snowboarding.

As far as more northern schools go, its a little more of a downtime and relaxed because its cold outside. But there’s always stuff to do all year round, so its never dull or anything if you want to find things to be boring.

In the United States many schools are different from each other. One important variable is what state the school is in. Some schools begin a new term with new teachers on or about February 1. Other schools are on what we call annual organization and continue with the same program for the year.

There is no major long holiday in for most schools in January.
