Have you been to both private & public school?

I went to public school and graduated w/ zero direction & just enough credits (I think it’s 21?). I recently spoke to a woman who DD’s graduated w/ 32 & 55 credits! One DD will get her BA in genetic engineering at only 20yrs old. This was a catholic school but evidently you don’t have to belong to the catholic church to attend there.

What are your thoughts, experiences?

I went to private Christian school until the 10th grade, when I switched to a public high school. The private school was full of super-achievers who had straight ‘A’s. I was an average student at the private school, but I found that I was an upper-level student in the public school.

Bottom line is: in public school, the teachers care less, and the standards aren’t as high. I am glad I got to do both so I could see for myself the discrepancies between the two. While I had a far superior education in private school, I had a much smaller variety of classes to take as opposed to what I had available in public school. So it was a trade-off, but I know that private school prepared me better for college than the public school ever would have. I am thankful I spent the majority of my education in private school, but I am glad I got to take some interesting classes in the public school.

I’ve taught in a private school and also in the public school system for over 30 years. My daughters both went through public schools.

Both of my girls (and their classmates) were given opportunities to take college level classes during their senior years of high school. If your school didn’t provide such opportunities, then you should have asked the school counselors. Most schools who are near community colleges or 4-year colleges have partnerships like that.

As for graduating with a BA at age 20, that’s kind of early, in my humble opinion. Of course, Genetic Engineering should earn a BS, and not a BA.

If your friend’s daughters took 32 & 55 units of high school or college credit during high school, when did they have time for the richness of high school itself?

Being a teenager should not mean being in a pressure-cooker. We should look for well-rounded children, not parental bragging rights.

I went to a public school from nursery school to 12th grade and I now go to a private college and I worked in a private elementary school. In my college the class size is much smaller so there is much more individual attention and it is easier to get to know everyone and see everything. At my public schools I barely got 1 on 1 attention with the teacher because of the large amount of students. At the private school I worked at the class sizes were small and the kids were able to get very involved with the class. In my public schools there wasn’t much involvment for the students.

My daughter goes to a Private Christian school. I teach in a public school. My daughter comes home and tells me that a child got in BIG trouble at the private and when she tells me the story it is stuff that happens every day at the public school. The kids that go to private are there becuz their parents are paying good money to go there….they aren’t going to let the school off the hook for things that public schools are going through. My daughter is in class to learn and the teachers don’t have to spend much time with discipline because those kids know how to act. Their rule book is The Bible, who can argue with that. For me I love teaching in at-risk public schools, but my daughter will go to Christian Private as long as we can afford it.

well i have been in both public and catholic school no you do not have to be catholic to attend catholic schools i got a GREAT education at public school maybe its just the school i went to or something but in catholic school i also got a GREAT education but i think public schools give you more of a social experience than a catholic school they have more fun in public school not that fun is what school is for but i think when your having fun learning you learn more i think in public school you do more discussing with other classmates i do think that in catholic school you learn faster though i have a friend who is in public school at the moment and i am in catholic school and she is going to 8th grade while i am going to 9th grade she has a summer assignment and she says she hasnt learn most of the stuff in it i learned the stuff in the assignment in 7th grade and she has been through 7th grade already it could just be that she wasnt paying attention but i highly doubt that because she is and A & B student so maybe catholic school is just a little ahead of public school but either way i think you can get a GREAT education from both as long as you keep focus and study hard

Public education got here approximately in the aftermath of passing newborn hard artwork rules in the mid-nineteenth Century. till then, human beings employed tutors in the event that they could locate the money for it, yet maximum oftentimes toddlers purely labored as area of the family members on farms. With the commercial Revolution, a lot of human beings moved to cities and have been given “salaried” jobs. toddlers additionally labored in turbines, factories and mines. this custom, as that’s right this moment being puzzled in different countries, became desperate to be “inhumane” (many toddlers died in commercial injuries and mine failures) and rules have been handed to maintain toddlers from working in turbines, factories and mines. What have been mother and father then to do with great numbers of toddlers who had not something to do? the present style of public education got here from this occasion. great numbers of toddlers mandatory to be regarded after in the process the day in a rather much less costly way. great homes with great lecture rooms became the suitable answer. coaching interpreting, writing and arithmetic became the medium we used to look after toddlers. the opportunities of known education have been at as quickly as recognized and a few smart human beings utilized themselves to the introduction of the sciences of curriculum and training approaches, all of that have persisted to be sophisticated through fact then. The political conflict has additionally persisted between protecting expenses down and protecting centers adequate. the wealthy could desire to nonetheless residing house college their toddlers with tutors and not project appropriate to the nicely known of education for the a lot – as long as expenses to the well-known public handbag have been saved low. In any journey, there easily are a lot greater suitable fashions of education that we are able to think of. the wealthy and rather rich proceed to “prepare” their toddlers with greater-curricula events and opportunities and the fees of public colleges are saved unrealistically low. If we’ve been to shift our project-loose premise of public education faraway from “care taking” to “looking after and teaching”, then shall we arise with many a lot greater suitable fashions and methods than we presently use – regardless of the undeniable fact that it would maximum in all danger mean that we’d must be prepared to pay for this high quality “replace parenting”.
