Does internet use have a negative influence on children’s education?

It seems so simple these days to find and copy homework answers from the internet. Is creative thought the loser?

Yes, it is like having a calculator when we were in school. We did not learn how to properly figure out teh problems, because we knew that we would always have the calculator to fall back on when were were in the “real world”. Now kids only know how to google search something off of wickapedia. They put no thaught into going to the library and looking for a creditable book to look something up, or even read what they are putting down, because they can plagerize a one of the 3000 websites on Aberham Lincoln, and their teacher will never find out. Even if they do find out, they will only recieve a slap on the wrist and get passed to the next grade anyway.

It’s almost imposible to flunk school if you show up every day!

No way. The internet is mostly a positive influence on their education. Information is always up to date, you can ask other people questions and if you have a piece of work you can get feedback from people from different backgrounds on internet forums. If people copy homework answers from the internet then that’s just a question of their morals and they are the ones to blame for that and not the internet. There’s still lots of creative thought around. But when you look at the bigger picture it’s hard to create or invent anything new these days. After thousands of years of human existence so much has already been done so it’s hard to create something original.

Every technology has both its advantages and disadvantages.

There is a lot of good in using the internet for education. The internet opens up a wide variety of sources that previously was not available to most. One has an amazing library at hone. If you know how to search for things you can find just about anything that you need at your fingertips. There is almost instantaneous communication with teachers. There a re a number of excellent on line free teaching sites that will help a child with homework, reports projects and social adjustments.

On the other hand some students misuse the internet. They plagiarize, want to be entertained , use spell check instead of learning to spell, get others to do their work for them and are subject to molestation and pornography.

It kinda goes both ways, the internet is a great tool when used properly, but always has the potential for abuse. Yes there are a myriad of sites that help children “cheat”, but that’s where our role as parents comes into play, we need to check their homework, and make sure they actually understand the lesson, and did the work themselves. I would be monitoring there web usage, and checking to see if they are accessing sites that simply give them the answers.

Yes, I believe both television and the internet are hindering to a child’s education and self. Instead of being able to think and be creative….have a free mind, they are spoon fed what to do and think by easy programs that imprint them. Why do you think the kids are less social able? Why are the parents now so quick to slam their kids in front of a tv? Because that’s what they did when they were young, and that’s all they know.

I am a kid, and nobody really cuts and pastes the answers on their HW….. I’m in 6th grade and we know better than to plagiarize off a website…I don’t even trust most websites, unless I know it’s true. Plus we don’t plagiarize we at least state the sentence in our own words. Plus what if you forgot your science book or whatever at home then you can look up what you need to know or ask people like what you do on this website, then you have your answer…not just coping though, actually learning, did u know kids aren’t that dumb we actually know things!!

As with most things, Internet can be a negative.

So can TV, sugar, caffeine, peers, parents, etc.
