Any advice for starting high school?

I’m starting high school in a few weeks.

Should I sit at the front of the class? Where do I sit at lunch? What kind of people should I make friends with? Should I be friendly to my teachers, or will I seem like a teacher’s pet? How do I start a conversation with someone I don’t know? Etc.

Any advice at all would be really helpful! Thanks!

Honey just be yourself. Try to be friendly with everyone, teachers and students alike. If you sit down with someone you don’t know just ask simple things like how’s it going today. A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet. Don’t be stressed, you’ll be fine.

first off, it’s no big deal missing the first week. the first week is reviews, rules, and stuff like that. it’s much better than missing another part of the year. here are some tips: tips: 1) always smile- smiling shows you’re friendly and you’re open to people for conversation. smile at people and teachers. 2) dress to impress- don’t change your style for the first day of school or throughout the year. wear something a little nicer for the first day, but that’s it. 3) have good posture- don’t walk in a room slouched over. sit up straight in your seat and walk standing upright. 4) have confidence- if you get the chance to stand up and talk about yourself the first day in a room, do it right. get up and smile and look people in the eyes, even if you don’t know them. it will show you’re friendly. you could practice this at home before you start school. 5) smell nice- spray a hint of a cute perfume on yourself before each class. =) 6) act comfortable, even if you’re not- this one’s hard, but you have to do it. don’t go up and talk and keep saying “uh” and such. 7) be kind- if you see someone who is lost or needs help, help them. that’s how you make friends. 8) be active in school- me and my locker partner became close because of fbla. i met so many upperclassmen and such being in a club. sports are also really good because you will find people with comon interest. 9) go to orientation- if your school has an orientation, then go. mine did and i know it put my mind at ease that i was able to walk around the school and see where classes and places were before school started. good luck, and if you have any questions about anything… feel free to e-mail me… it’s in my profile!

Hey,

I’m gunna be starting year 8 in september, so it was my first year last year. High school seems really cool in the first few months but i prefered primary. Its a big change. Starting a convosation with new people is easy, in some classes you will find you will be put next to people on a seating plan. You just have to say Hi! Then you can ask what their name is, what primary school they went too, if many people from there primary school came to this high school, birthdays, family etc. It will be ok honestly. Sit in the middle of the class if you want that way you wont have to worry. Yes, you should be nice and polite to the teachers, dont worry about being a teachers pet (but dont over do it!) everybody will be good as gold in the first few months, trust me!! Once you’ve settled in, it will be just like primary and you’ll start to be more yourself. Are any people from your primary going to the same high school? If so, you should sit next to them at lunch but dont worry you’ll make new friends, what friends should you make? Make friends with nice people d’uh!!, people who are like you and dont change like most people will.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Be outgoing, and never be afraid to laugh at yourself. A good way to make friends might be to talk with your other classmates about what you thought of your teacher after class is dismissed? Being friends with your teachers can almost never hurt you, just don’t over do it. You’ll probably find that a lot of your teachers are genuinely nice and likeable people anyway. As to where to sit in class: studies have shown that the students with the highest grades tend to sit in the front row accross, and middle row going back.

1. establish yourself as the funny person in the class

2. sit anywhere at lunch, just don’t stay quiet

3. be friendly to all teachers, the “bad” kids might think you’re a loser, but most will want to talk to you after you say something interesting

4. if you’re the shy type, bring a rubix cube to school. usually, others will either say “can i try that out?” or “are you good at that?” then just carry out the conversation from there

There are books you can buy on starting conversations and being friends. Have one and use it as a bible. Also join in as many extra curricular activities as you can these are where people make their closest friends. Look at yourself hard in the mirror everyday before you go to school. Make sure you are well groomed and smell nice. Avoid people who are mean. Anybody who acts rudely or strangely to you isgiving themselves away as not a person you want to interact with.
