Is is difficult to get into veteranary school? What areas do you need to be strong in? What classes would you need to take in college? How long do veteranarians go to school?

Yes, it is a very competitive field and very rewarding, too. A veterinarian has four years of college, then applies to vet school (4 more years). They study all the subjects a medical doctor does: biology, anatomy and physiology (of all animals), inorganic and organic chemistry, math through calculus, physics, language, and general education, as well.

When you stop and think about it, vets have more education because animals cannot talk to you, tell you their symptoms and how long they have been in pain, so you need more time in school. Also, their anatomy is different (animals have several body types), while medical doctors are working with one body type who can speak!

It is difficult, but if it is your passion then you will be successful. The world needs more caring, wonderful, compassionate, and intelligent vets. Best wishes.

I hear that Vet school can be as dificult as medical school. There are many different animals to study. I would check out some vet classes and get a good feel for it before you completely commit to taking classes. Sometimes you can sit in on a class or watch what the students do. I would also talk to actual vets. A little bit of background knowledge may serve you well in the future.

Usually eight years.

First four years are at a college or university, you should really go to a school that offers a pre-vet track but some kids get into a veterinary schools with degrees in art. It all depends on if you meet the requirements and have great grades.

The next four years are an accreditted veterinary college. Some states don’t even have these colleges.
