HI, I conduct art therapy lessons for kids just his age…

The best crafts are the cheap ones that are stimulating and keep them busy for a while. So I suggest taking him to the park and picking up leafs, pine cones, sticks, stones etc…taking those home and stamping with them (dip them in paint and press or roll on paper), glue them and decorate boxes, frames and more. Also, a lot of things around the house make for great art tools, such plastic utensils, combs, toothbrushes, egg mixer…the kids love painting with these! In addition, drawing with markers on aluminum foil is always fun as well as making sculptures out of it.

Collages are usually allot of fun, so have him rip pictures out of magazines, continue them with crayons and create weird creatures by combining different photos. He can also glue them around a box or bottle and create a vase. Another fun activity is tracing his body on a large paper while he lies down. Kids could decorate and draw a face and body details for hours. And if you have the time and patience- paper mache are always the most messy and most fun!!! Good-luck! (oh- and don;t forget to cover EVERYTHING with plastic or sheets for protection!)

I hope you have plenty of short story books, I always made a game out of reading by asking them where certain colors were on a page. Like….show me where red is, show me where the bird is, etc.

Also, your child can actually be taught how to use the plastic scissors and purchase colored paper.

If you haven’t already started, you can teach your child numbers and letters. Keep refrigerator magnets up of both and say the alphabet song with him.

At this age, he is like a sponge, all he needs is something to be absorbed.

Good luck and always make learning FUN 🙂

Bored at home? Allow him to go outside and play (supervised of course). Allow him to interact with other kids his age.
