i need to know what correct grade to place child based on birthdate month…where does the month school yr end
what month is the cut off as far and end of year for school age ex. if born 3/99 is that 2nd grade and if born 12/99 is that also 2nd grade (should i break it down by certain month is so, which month is that? I need to figure out age breakdowns for preschool age children on up….

It depends on the state. 3/99 should be 3rd grade and 12/99 2nd grade. Most cut offs are somtime in August or beginning of September.

The best way to find out is to call the school district where your child will be attending. Here, a child must be 5 before March 1 of the 2007-08 school year to begin kindergarten fall of 2007. We found that out first, and then planned when to place dd in preschool based on that. The problem was that the cut-off date for some preschools was different. For most preschools. children had to be 3 or 4 before the school year started.

Usually preschools use the same cutoff as the local school district does so that the same group of students goes on to kindergarten at the same time. Then the younger groups all move up.

In my state, the kids have to be 6 by Sept. 1st to enter first grade. School actually starts in August, but as long as they will be 6 by Sept. 1 they can start school. Your local school district will know where to place your child. It’s different in every state.

In Ca, the cut off date for school enrollment by DOB is Dec 2nd (or 3rd). The best way to know for sure is to check with your school district.

where I’m from children born from January 1st to December 31st in any one year are grouped together for school.
