Sorry to disagree as the GED is called the General Education Diploma in all 50 states and is available to people who didn’t finish high school. It tests you on math, English, grammar, history, theory, sciences, etc.

More people are finding out they cannot get decent jobs without a high school diploma nor can they enter college courses to update their training and knowledge base without a high school diploma.

At the university where I work, if you are wanting to obtain a GED, you have to take a pre-test through ABE (Adult Basic Education) which will ascertain how much you know or actually remember..and then the counselor will either send you to GED classes (for a whole semester) that will prepare you for the GED exam. Or if your pre-test scores are within the national requirements, you can take the test immediately.

So for those who think a GED is bogus….think again.

It is an Equivalency exam. It is to prove that you could get the basic requirements for High School. You get a diploma at the end and you just study before hand. A lot of people who go for this are interested in a particular course, so they go and take the pre-requisite GED High School equivalency and cut the time that it would take to enter that course.

It is for those who have dropped out of school. It is a piece of paper know as the “Good Enough Diploma” to show they have a high school equivalant education.
