That depends on your specific situation. There is also Private School to throw into this mix.

Home schoolers like this bec of less negative peer or social pressure, also more easily giving special attention if there are learning disabilities.

Public school advocates believe a proper education must include adequate social interaction and challenge. Also, in some areas there are Fed or State magnet programs to help advance gifted students.

Sometimes it boils down to what is the best option for where you are living-unless you can move. I always had my children in public schools until the racial discrimination became unacceptable in middle school, then I chose a local private school for them.

Here’s some links to try.

The answer to this question depends on your situation. I am a teacher and a parent, and my children and I have now been at a public school, private school, and are now trying homeschooling. We went to a private school when the schools near us were not good. The schools had a very rough crowd and the education was not very good so we chose private schooling. When we moved 2 years ago, my son went to a public school in Edmond, OK. It was incredible. There were small class sizes, good teachers, and a good student population, people you didn’t mind influencing your child. We just moved again and tried the public schools in a suburb of Phoenix, and my son cried everyday for two weeks. There were so many behavior problems that the teacher had to be mean. He had 31 first graders in his class. As a teacher, this seems impossible to me. His work was far behind what he was used to, and there was no social interaction. The students couldn’t talk to each other except at their 10 minute recess. Since I am a teacher, and we knew I could teach my son better, we withdrew him and started homeschooling. Homeschooling is great. We get to teach him at his instructional level, and there is not much wasted time. We can finish in about 4 hours a day. He has much more social interaction because we get with other homeschool children, and neighborhood children everyday. My son’s time is now more efficient. He is achieving more academically but still has more time to play and spend time with family. He plays sports, takes piano lessons, and rock climbs 4 times a week. With public school, he did not have time for all of this after spending 7 hours a day in school plus homework. I would go back to our private school or the good public school we attended but they are now on the other side of the country. There is no way I would put my son back in the public school close to our house, by the way we picked our house because this was supposed to be one of the best schools in town. There is no right or wrong answer. Your choice depends on what is best for you academically and also socially. Are you a better person for going to your school or not? If not, I would check into other options.

I like the answer the first responder had.

Honestly, I feel that the most important part of “education” isn’t so much what you are learning classroom wise, but learning how to socially interact with people. If the person doing the teaching for homeschooling is reasonably intelligent, then the child would probably learn more there. However, unless you want them to grow up to be a social idiot, I’d recommend either having the child attend public school for at least a few years or participate in a fair number of sports or other extra-curricular type activities.

Public schooling. It allows a person to be social or learn how to be social. A person that attends public school has the opportunity to join in team sports, dances, etc. I don’t believe this is an opportunity someone with home schooling can get.

i’m going contained in direction of an identical subject too, i think of there’s a scale of stable as against undesirable that’s relatively useful to weight. in the experience that your infants are social and have associates then there is not any reason you ought to discard homeschooling, in basic terms be sure you have them in different after-college events alongside with swimming, working or something available on your community, that way you recognize that they at the instant are not being stored captive from the exterior international. yet once you incredibly think of that’s somewhat and there is not any real motives to take them out of public college ( alongside with Bullying) then you definitely could have a communique with them and clarify to them why that’s an significant ingredient for them to stay the place they’re, of direction do no longer music them out and pay attention what they must say that way you will locate out the real motives they pick to be abode-schooled. i’m hoping this enables

If I had to do over again I would homeschool until highschool. My kids play sports so they would need to attend highschoo, but they could play recreational until then. I think it changes the person – all the homeschool children I know are calm, confident and very smart.
