A GED is a General Education Diploma. It means you know enough to graduate from high school, but didn’t finish in the normal way for some reason or other. Usually when some one says “degree” they are talking about a degree earned from a college or some other institute of higher learning. There are 2 year degrees called Associate degrees, then Bachelor degees, Masters degree, and then the Doctorate degree. Unfortunately, most GED’s only signify that you have a very basic education and some employers don’t feel they are as valid as a high school diploma. I guess it really depends on the individual.

A degree you get by actually completing high school. A GED is somewhat equivalent but it’s for people who don’t finish high school but still want a ‘certificate of completion’. Hope that helps!!

a GED means you are smart enough to have graduated high school when you actually never did … so it works instead of a degree. a high school degree means that you actually graduated
