Whats the best way to cover up a year on the dole on a CV?

I am an English Literature graduate, obtained a 2,1 last year but since then I have been taking some time out really, have no idea what I want to do with my life and for this reason I have not had a job. Every job I seem to look at seems boring or unobtainable. I have applied for lots of things but as of now I have found nothing. Anyway, time flies ridiculously fast and I am now in the position where I really do need to get working and there is a great gap in my CV. Any advice?

Standard practice is to tell those who inquire, “I was working on a novel (or a biography), but realized after many months that many more months are required.” And you also say that it’s in such an incomplete state that you cannot show it without terrible embarrassment and you sha’n’t. 🙂

Me, myself and I
Leave those years out, you dont have to tell them your life story, just be honest if they ask you or tell them you were dealing with some family issues, took time off and traveled, they will respect you for it, try doing some short course, this will help your resume.
