well you’re going to need to obviously get a bachelor’s degree. so major in something you want…something you can do great in (since good grades are very important for med school admissions).

some popular majors for premed students are: biology, physiology, biochemistry, and chemistry. but biology is by far the most popular. keep in mind, however, your major has no impact on med schools. major in fine arts or linguistics for all they care. of course, you will still have to take the basic premed sciences – calculus, bio, inorganic chem, organic chem, physics. make sure you do GREAT in these courses.

once you get to college, keep in touch with the premedicine committee or advisor. they will eventually have to write recommendations and such. during your junior year, you will have to take the MCATS, which are the second most important decision maker for med school admissions.

towards your end of junior year and beginning of senior year, start to apply to med schools. keep a good variety of schools. most prestigious to least prestigious. but worry about that in a few years.

for now, get into a decent college and shoot for excellent grades.

lastly, make sure you use your free time wisely. partying is ok…keep it to a minimum though. make sure you do extracurrics–hospital volunteer, internship, research, etc.

good luck

If your refering to a mojor in college, then there are a variety of majors to choose from. Usually, students choose majors in the sciences, math, and pre-med field as a undergraduate major before going on to med school. I have heard of people majoring in majors such as sociology, and get into medical school. One thing to realize is that, you want to be strong in science, math, and english, having said that it almost doesn’t really matter what your major is as long as you can show that you have taken courses in advanced sciences, and math. All colleges have different requirements, but all believe in diversity of there students, whether nationality, life exeperiences, education, knowledge, personality, gender etc. they want to accept the brightest, and most diverse student body as possible.
