They assist the owner/president of a company in daily clerical functions such as answering phones, filing, keeping the boss’ schedule and making appointments, typing letters, and possibly helping overseeing staff. They are the “right arm” of that person they are working for. Another term may be Administrative Assistant.

From my understanding, front office assistant is one who deals with customers/public, the back office assistant is one who literally works in the back- that is- they do not deal with the public. Hope that helps.
