Neo Geo’s response is right on. A psychiatrist takes some 8 years to become a medical doctor while a physiologist merely has to earn a four-year B.S. degree in a field of biology. Good luck!

Physiology is a subfield of biology. The study of how cells, tissues, and organisms function in humans, animals, plants or microorganisms. They tend to work in laboratories, libraries, space and in the field. Usually you need a PhD for independent research, otherwise a Masters or Graduate degree will suffice for most jobs.

Psychiatry is a is a branch of medicine that studies, prevents, and treats mental disorders in humans. The typical path to this job is a pre-med Bachelor’s, an MD or DO at medical school, a 4 year residence, then finally a written and oral test to get board certification. The process usually takes 12-13 years.

First one is a doctor and can treat a patient with drugs, the other helps the patient by talking things over. Sometimes both are needed to treat a patient.

One studies the human mind (they way people act) and one studies the human body (the way it works).
