Here is a good example (using TV show Friends):

Theme – 6 Friends learning about love and life and having each other to turn to.

Plot – Flashback to prom night learning how long Ross has really loved Rachel (via home movie).

A theme:

The central or dominating idea, thesis, or meaning of a work. Usually the theme of any given work can be stated quite simply. For example, the theme of Plato’s ‘Republic’ is justice.

A plot:

The framework of a piece of drama or fiction; the planned series of interrelated incidents that make up the story being told. These incidents are arranged in a logically ordered sequence to arouse interest and suspense and to lead to a climax.

I hope I have satisfied you.

Please, try to get the following book:

The plot is mainly the storyline itself, the theme is basically when we find out what the story is going to be all about.

A book with a plot will get published and sell more copies than a book with a ‘theme’. The difference is several million dollars.
