What is the difference between a private college and a public on? Is one better? Cost?
Is one cheaper in cost or free?

Private colleges and universities usually cost more, but are nice because the class sizes are usually a lot smaller. A public university will be bigger and cheaper, but the class sizes will usually be larger. As far as whether or not one is better educationally than the other, I think its too hard to say. I personally think it comes down to whether or not you want smaller classes. Hope this helps!

Public universities are state run and the tuition is usually less for in-state students. (a difference of around $10,000/year or more).
Private universities are privately run. They tend to be more expensive (usually $15,000 at small, “unknown” schools to $30 or $40,000 at Ivy League schools (like Princeton, Yale, Harvard)..
Private schools are sometimes church-sponsored so there are many Baptist, Presbyterian, or Episcopalian colleges (where you can study things like Church Music, Theology, and Missions work) while public schools are always secular.
