Letters of recommendations are wonderful tools that get you noticed in places you’re considering for employment or to get into that university. If you’re using it to get into the college of your choice, then you’ll need to ask your high-school principal, teachers (specifically the ones you got an “A” in), and your counselor to write one up for you. It’s basically a letter written by them that describes what type of student, person, individual you are. It’s a letter that highlights all your accomplishments and lets the college know how you were perceived by your high-school administrators and teachers.

A letter of recommendation is a letter that is written by some one who is aware of your character/work ethic. It should be written by someone “professional”. Maybe a former teacher, boss, or someone who has worked with you in the field you are pursueing. I generally send out 3-5 letters of rec. with each job application I send (I am a teacher), but I was never asked for one when applying to college. Midway through college I was asked for one to be admitted to the teaching program…but never for formal college admission. Good luck!
