Besides that… take her shopping!! She will be fascinated by the differences between what you can buy wherever you are and what she knows about in Japan.

You’ll find you have way more in common than you think. She may be shy at first, try to be kind and not overwhelm her with attention… and find out about where she’s from too, what her home/school/etc is like, so she gets a chance to talk and build her confidence. Probably her English is good enough for conversation, so you WILL be able to talk. Don’t push or try to get her to talk about things she doesn’t want to, though… politeness and respect are super important in this situation.

Just imagine what it would be like for you… if you went to a foreign place where you had studied the language but had never been to. You’d be shy, but you’d be interested in everything your host family was doing. It might be great!
