what can you tell me about sororities and joining? rush, dues, getting in, you personal experiences, etc?

what do they look for when picking people who will pledge?

how much are dues each month? what other expenses?

what are the pros and cons of joining a sorority?

any personal experiences you’d like to share?

anything else would be awesome.

thanks =]

In short, I highly recommend it. There are a lot of negative stereotypes but they are from people who never experienced being in a sorority. You get so much out of it– sisterhood, campus and community involvement, leadership, networking, academics, social events (yes, it’s true). I joined one my freshman year and, now 5 years after graduation, am still involved with the advisory board and alumnae chapter… joining a sorority is so much more than 4 years of easy access to parties. The con is the stereotypes.

Sororities do not make a profit. Dues are different for each chapter on each campus- all dependent on the University requirements, the state’s insurance policies, cost of maintaining a chapter house (some are over 100 years old), running costs (food, electricity, cleaning, etc) as well as social events (formals, dinner parties).

When you go through recruitment, show your interest, ask questions and let the girls know if you like their chapter and want to join. I’m sure you’ll find a chapter that will be a great fit for you!

Good luck!
