Ways to determine the credibility of online information?
Favorite Answer
When it comes to websites, check at the bottom of the home page to see how recently the site was updated.
Other than that, consider the source of the information. If you want to know about the Holocaust, a neo-Nazi website is not exactly the best place to look. Weigh the information you find to decide whether it is slanted or biased in some way. The person or group posting the information may have an agenda or an ax to grind, thus making them less reliable.
Of course, you could consult several sources of information to see whether they agree on the same facts. Opinions are another matter. There is a Latin saying: “Quot homines, tot sententiae” … There are as many opinions as there are people. Opinions are fine, as long as they are based in fact. It’s up to you to make up your own mind on a given issue.
