I start classes inthe fall to get a degree in k-8 teaching…but, teachers dont make neough, so ilooked into SLP–they start at like $50,000 a year whereas a teacher starts at 28,000

so id rather start big than small. What type of degree do i need and how fast can i attain my degree for this? any suggestions?

In most U.S. states, you need a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology to enter the field. As part of your Master’s degree program, you will take various courses, such as articulation, swallowing disorders, language disorders, aphasia, and many more. You will also work with clients to improve their communication and usually have an externship experience in a school, hospital, clinic, or another type of therapy setting.

The American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national organization for SLPs in the U.S. and they have a ton of information about how to enter the field, find a school, etc. on their website: www.asha.org.

That is a great place to start. From there, you could start calling/emailing schools about their specific programs.

Most Master’s programs in speech are about 2 years long if you already have a Bachelor’s degree in speech language pathology, but they are longer if you don’t.

MOST STATES ALSO REQUIRE YOU TO BE CERTIFIED (CERTIFICATE OF CLINICAL COMPETENCE or be in your CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP YEAR) AND BE LICENSED BY THE STATE YOU WILL PRACTICE IN. HTTP://WWW.ASHA.ORG ALSO HAS INFORMATION ON THIS PROCESS. Best wishes.
