overall, what is REALLY better; private school or public school?

i’ve heard that some of the most misbehaving kids are in privat school…. so i look to public school where the quality of education is horrible and lacking. i want the best for my (future) kids. so, give me some pros and cons. which do you think is really the best one?

I think its really a matter of opinion on this one. If you can afford $5000 a year to put your kid in private school, kudos to you. I have two kids and personally I can think of several other things to spend $10,000 a year on than education. Plus the cost of uniforms and books. I wouldn’t want to bust my butt and work 60 plus hours a week to put my kids in private school and NEVER see them because I am working to keep them in there. Public school is just as good. Private schools are for the ones that can afford it and don’t want their children associating with “underprivileged kids”. Kids are you kids. Rich or poor. Some parents are just too ignorant to see that. I knew SEVERAL girls/boys that came out of private school into public school in high school and they turned out SO bad! My niece also has had SEVERAL problems with the after school care. My sister in law had DCF called because my niece was “touched” by a fellow male student. It happens in both public and private. As far as the education goes, my niece also has a speech problem and after two years in private school has yet to improve. She is 7 and my daughter who is 5 and her speech is much better. But I wish you the best of luck and hope you find the school that fits you and your familys needs!

I think public school is better. the education is honestly nothing less than the private school education, it depends more on the children attending the school… whether or not they can focus easily or not. at private school, the teachers are more strict and make the students pay attention more, but honestly, it’s less fun. I suggest public school because it does actually have great education, it’s a lot more fun, and your child will enjoy it more!

It depends on the school district. I went to public school in a town with a lot of money. We had nice facilities, good teachers, etc. The Catholic school did not have as much money and therefore not many facilities (academic and athletic) You really have to look into each school and decide what has the best to offer, not whether it is public or private.

i would say that for elementary and middleschool that it is better to put your child in private school this way they aren’t growing up around drugs and violence. Durring these years the learning level is usually above public school. The enviorment overall is much better as well. Durring highschool the learning level seems to be pretty even but public school will offer A.P. classes. If they go to public school they will be facing the temptations of drugs. Public school enviorment will not have as much to offer as a private school. So the question would really be, ‘what are you looking for more: a good education, or a good enviorment?’

You do realize that books, essays, thesis and what not have been written on this, right?

The best answer is probably tens of thousands of pages long.

You really need to wait until your kids are born though because how they learn is an imperative section of the answer. Do they have behavior problems – that is another factor. What are the public schools like near you? What programs are your kids going to be interested in? APs? Arts? Athletics?

Where do you live? – have you seen what is out there?

I have my oldest in a private Christian School, and to say it is for “posh” people that is a HUGE sterotype…(the comment left for you) anyway the school is amazing! and I would never put him in public…I put him in private b/c public I knew would be too much for him..I am a stay at home Mother and he has only been in one church preschool for two years which he went two days out of the week and for two and a half hours..so it wasn’t much..and all the kids and talk, ways, etc of public would “freak” him out and I knew it would scare him…I thought about this tons! and I def picked the best place! It boils down to what “you feel is right” for your children…and totally on the area you live in and the quality of school districts you live in…we live in the best school area and I still went with Private…and don’t regret it one bit! oh and the class is only 10 kids so he gets alot of attention which he is just like me and his Father! we get sidetracked so easy! and they are really calm and great with the students and makes sure they are all on the same level!

Entirely specific to the school. You can’t make this generalization. Some public schools have special programs, and there are private schools both for gifted and special ed kids. You have to look at your child and how they fit with the schools available. Is sports a favorite of this child, or is academics their priority? What teams can he join? Debate or football? Either can land money for college. You need to know the kid first.

You are! Private or public is only as good as the parent’s involvement in the child’s education. It’s YOUR job to educate your child, the school is only a tool.

i went to a charter school wich is just like a private school they make you learn and they will help you.but i hated the kids there so much they were obnoxious it seemed like none of them wanted to be there and the commericials for the school only showed the well behaved kids. but the school most deffanitly helped me pass.but i hated it there so i started skipping school and i was really sneaky so they never noticed.

then i moved to a public school

i loved it i didnt have to do anything the teachers didnt care or tell me what to do everyone was nice and openminded no one was mean to me and everyone had friends! i loved it so much it got boring

and then

I dropped out at 14

…… basically niether is better.
