Homecoming is an annual tradition of the United States. People, towns, high schools and colleges come together, usually in late September or October, to welcome back former residents and alumni. It is built around a central event, such as a banquet or a game of American football, basketball, or ice hockey. When celebrated by schools, the activities vary widely. However, they usually consist of a football game played on the school’s home football field, activities for students and alumni, a parade featuring the school’s marching band, and the coronation of a Homecoming Queen (and at many schools, a Homecoming King).

Homecoming is a tradition observed at many American and Canadian high schools and colleges, usually in late September or October. Each school’s activities vary widely, but usually consist of an football game played on the school’s home football field, activities for students and alumni, a parade featuring the school’s marching band, and the coronation of a Homecoming Queen (and at many schools, a Homecoming King).

Homecoming King and Queen is always a fun event. Your high school will vote for the Homecoming court and the royalty.

The court is made up of underclassmen, one girl and one boy from each class. The royalty is usually a Prince and Princess (Junior class) and the King and Queen (Senior class).

The King and Queen and the rest of the court and royalty are usually announced during half time during the football game. It’s a really big thing for some schools. And it’s always really fun.

Back in the old days, homecoming was just a college thing for the alumni to come home(hence the name). High schools always trying to keep up with colleges decided to have them. Now they are a chance for the school to have a home game against your rival team, and a semi formal dance!

Traditionally it’s the first game of the year (usually football) after a team has played “away”. It’s also a chance for alumni to gather, and there’s almost always a dance. For some schools they’ll play their rival team, which makes it one of the biggest games in the season.
