My handwriting is horrible! How do I improve it?

I know practice is the key. But for some reason it doesnt seem to get better.

I dont really understand what I have to do to make it better either.

Do I just keep writing until it gets better?

Is there something out there that I can get to help me out?

Practice does not necessarily improve handwriting skills, unless you are practicing good habits and skills, not bad or messy habits and skills. Not everyone can have beautiful handwriting – some people are much better with that skill than others. If you really do want to improve your skills, it is quite possible to do so, and it might not take very long.

You need to consider a number of factors, including your posture and how you hold your pen and paper. The type of pen you use makes a difference so experiment until you find one that works well for you.

Today we have a wide variety of fonts available through our word processing programs. One easy way is to choose a sentence that has most of the letters (“The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” is one that is commonly used) and type it using a variety of fonts until you find one that you would like to emulate and practice those letter formations.

Another excellent way for an adult to improve handwriting skills is to take a calligraphy course or to do a self-taught calligraphy course.

I have included a number of sites that should help you. They are mostly designed for teachers or parents or therapists who are teaching kids handwriting skills, but I think you will find many helpful ideas. Best of luck with it.

The great activity for making improvements to your handwriting is to train. Try sitting down and writing slower and listen extra on what you’re looking to write. After awhile take a look at dashing up however preserving the equal sort as whilst you write slower.
