My boyfriends smart?

My school was offering free IQ tests, and my boyfriend took it as joke. He’s really spacey and always getting bad grades, he even had to go to summer school for freshman year. His results came back as 137, according to the test, anything above 130+ is very superior, and like the best result you can get. What the hell? Can someone explain how he can be so dumb, yet so smart at the same time?

You know that saying, “Trying to fit a square peg in a round hole” well, he thinks in a different format than the average person and the way school’s teach….so he seems to not “get it” when in fact he is really looking at things from a unique personal perspective. If he is really spacey, he may have ADD and might need medication to focus while at school.

Sad that no teacher had ever noticed he was bright before….

Some people have really great skills in certain areas, like understanding people, but not test well…there are some new kinds of labels for intelligences these days, like an athletic intelligence or an emotional intelligence that didn’t used to be noted on math/language tests.

I think he needs to find some good outlets for creativity and let himself realize he may not be a happy camper with school but he has potential.

Knowing and learning are different from what is measured on an IQ test. The IQ test figures out how well you are able to find commonalities, differences, and patterns. How FAST you learn. Not how well you learn.

If you and your BF took the same quiz on a random set of subject that you had never learned anything about he would likely score higher than you because he would be able to pick out small details, like how a word was use in a certain way back in that question so it must be related to this question. He doesn’t ‘know’ anymore about the subject but he can pick up the little pieces of info better. {that’s assuming you have an average 100 or so IQ}

Yea… Like people have said, school grades, IQ, and actual applicable intelligence are all very separate areas. A lot of people just can’t focus in school, through boredom or just because it’s the way they are. Or they think in a way differently from what they’re being taught, so they can apply their intelligence just fine and figure things out on IQ tests but can’t do it the way they’re being taught, and so they have difficulty in some areas of school.

To give you an idea, many tests have shown autistic people (To put it simply, people who seem to be permanently spaced out) to have IQ’s around 200.

I think of IQ tests as a measurement of potential. Even if someone had a genius IQ… if he sits in the back of class asleep every day, then he’s going to fail classes.

This happens alot. He might be smart but just too lazy to study or turn in homework. Or (I dont mean to sound mean at all to this) he might have cheated.

he is probably very artistic and creative. or the subjects bore him so much that he doesn’t pay attention. IQ has nothing to do with KNOWLEDGE
