No. Parents just need to be more responsible with what they allow their children to watch. If they allow their kids to watch “questionable” or “controversial” films or read books with such content, they should be able to explain to and guide the child or young adult so they know or have a better understanding of what the artist/writer/etc. is trying to explain.

Books, Movies, TV and the like would have little effect on a child’s moral values if they are raised in a caring enviroment and provided with a solid moral example to follow.

Censorship is a cop out.

No. In fact, it’s the surest way to destroy the free exchange of ideas that makes Democracy work. And it’s not just one faction. Everybody does it.

If you can ban Oscar Wilde’s work because of his irreverance and being gay, you can ban Mark Twain for using the “N-word” And the film Casablanca because the characters smoke.

The best two ways of preventing the deterioration of morals is for role models to act morally and ethically themselves and to teach the skills of critical reading.

Teaching kids what to think always fails, whether you are teaching them Christian Morality or Political Correctness. Once they spot an untruth they begin to reject the whole package.

Teach the young HOW to think and you show them how to find the truth for themselves. And that IS necessary for the maintenance of Morality.

Each generation must validate the old truths anew or all they learn is words that have no real meaning to them and those truths are thereby lost.

I don’t think so. What’s necessary is that the young have a good role model (such as a parent) who can teach them right from wrong and can explain to them the point that certain films and books are trying to get across. Just my $.02.

In a quick answer Yes. But the key is moderation. We walk the line between freedom and security, as it applies here, we walk the line between freedom of speech and censorship. The answer will change from person to person as to where we fall on that line. I believe we are doing a mediocre job, meaning we have room for improvement but with a diligent parent we are not very bad off at all.

Yes.

Lets face it, the world is getting worse. General behavior of youth in society today is worse than it was 20 years ago. This is most likely due to technology such as video games, movies and T.V. and the images young people are exposed to today. Censorship is needed to slow down the spiral of moral corruption.

proper parenting and a positive environment is the only thing that can deter the negative morals of the young.
