Is it smart to transfer from the University of Illinois-Urbana to University of Illinois at Chicago????

Ok, so i am a sophomore at the U of I, currently I am a pre-med student, and I really want to attend medical school at UIC, in Chicago. I would like to transfer to their campus next year to continue my undergrad courses, but everyone is telling me that its a stupid idea. Granted, my friends want me to stay, but U of I is also said to be the better school. If I do well here, and I do well there, is there really that big of a difference? Im sooo confused, but I need to figure it out soon because of housing.

UIC will almost certainly accept you because you are a UIUC student. The UofI has a policy to give students from a different campus second priority, in terms of transferring. First priority goes to students of the same campus transferring colleges.

However, UIC courses can be harder than Urbana’s because UIC is stricter with its grading practices. Many an Urbana transfer have seen their grades decrease. UIC is the public school in terms of health care. The health care programs, nursing and medicine, at Urbana are actually run by UIC. UIC offers its students a different educational situation than Urbana. It is also a school in transition. It is turning from its traditional commuter orientation to a more residential school. Many UIC pre-Meds do research on the medical west campus. There are many opportunities.

Many of the science professors are determined to give you a top rate education.

The current averages for Fall 2007 freshman is average ACT is about a 25 and are in the top 25% of their high school class. Urbana is a little higher than that, but not incredibly so.
