is it better to write your own notes or highight the textbook directly?

i’m currently in my second year of univeristy, and i really do think it’s btter to write your own notes so when you’re studying you don’t have to read all the unnecessay things aas well. but being in second year, there is ALOT more to study and so its extremely time consuming to write down notes, and then study them so by the time you’e done writing, you’re way too tired to start studying it all, but it’s quicker reading it all. so now i’m unsure of what to do. stop wriitng notes and just study the book, or continue writing notes even though it would take much much longer to get the studying done.

please help!

You need to find what your learning style is. How do you best learn? It will be different for different people. Just because I learn better by writing my own notes rather than highlighting the book doesn’t mean it’s the same for you. In fact, I usually do both, highlighting as I read the chapter. I find I learn best by attending every class and taking copious notes. The act of listening and writing burn the info into my brain. Others need to take those notes and reorganize & rewrite them, make them “theirs”. I had a friend who attended class only once a week, but read the text, highlighted it, and then outlined it in his words, and reviewed both text and notes for studying. Just depends..

I always take my own notes in class and then highlight the book and my notes while I study. Putting it in my own words always helps me to understand quicker.

I prefer to highlight the book and write important notes on the side.

It helps me remember what I was taught when I read my notes. It also helps because teachers usually mention things that will definitely be on the tests in class.
