Relax, be yourself and don’t try too hard to make friends — it’ll make you seem more desperate than you’d prefer.

Talk with people in your class (great for setting up study groups), join some school organizations (be it drama, band, honor societies, volunteer clubs, whatever you enjoy) and don’t fret to sit by yourself the first few days. If you’re fun, outgoing and friendly, many people will naturally gravitate towards you. The important thing is not to stress. It’ll be hard but within no time you’ll have your own group of friends and the angst will be forgotten.

there really is no way to prepare for switching schools… believe me, ive done it. you really just have to wing it and try to find people with similar interests and hope they’ll accept you. if you mess up the first time and sit with people you”d rather not sit with again, don’t sit with them. you’re not expected to choose your friends on the first day. i made that mistake once and ended up not talking at lunch and being miserable for about 2 years. just pick someone/somewhere different and move around until you find a place that you’re comfortable in. you should feel like the space you fill was made for you and only for you, and that if you’re not there there would be a whole instead.

also try to join some clubs that you’re interested in to make friends. it makes the process so much easier.

Try not to worry. I recently moved from California to New York, so I understand what you are going through. You’ll make new friends just by being yourself. Be friendly and try to talk to people in your class. Try to get yourself situated and things will work out fine =).

well i have always had a person show me around the school and we usually became friends.
