if u know somewhere deep inside that u have great potental for being smart, how do u catch up?

I have graduated from high school. I’ll just say this much out of proportion, i never really took the whole advantage thing and barely passed any classes. I barely made reserves for the Navy. I have crap for a job. and before i go i want to know how i can strengthen myself? college is right, but its the fear of “correction” classes, so i can catch up. can’t i do that myself and test when ready?

Go to your local library and check out books and read every free moment you have. It’ll not only help your reading skills, but your writing too. Start out on books like My Side of the Mountain, The Giver, To Take a Dare, and perhaps There is a Bat in Bunk Five. Not sure of your interests but they are all pretty varied and would give you a lot to choose from.

Also, many communities have free GED or ABE (adult basic education) classes. 99% of the time they will asses you first and determine areas you need work on. The good thing is usually accept people who already have a diploma or GED and just need to upgrade.

The “correction” classes you are talking about are an important part of your future education, trust me, MANY adult students returning after being out of school awhile take those classes. Don’t fear them, it’s a heck of a lot easier to feel a little slow in Remedial Math than to walk into College Algebra and not understand a word they are saying.
