1) Do as much work at school as you can. More at school, less at home.

2) Budget you time. Everyday, start homework at the same time. I suggest 3 pm in the afternoon. Have extra pens, pencils, and paper. Get a snack. Get a stapler, use paper clips, high-liters. Put homework done in one pile.

3) Clean up your room. Put clothes away. Dust and vacuum your room.

4) No TV or LOUD music while you work.

5) allow yourself a few breaks, maybe every 1/2 hour.

6) Homework includes studying for exams.

7) Stay off the telephone and computer when it involves your friends.

8) Surprise your parents and teachers by getting better grades on homework and tests. They will love it.

9) Finally, you know sentences need punctuation. Quit running everything together. Use periods and commas. Reread what you write.

10) The first step toward improving is to recognize that you need to.

11) Have a friend in the same class work with you.

Good Luck

I had a friend when I was in school that sounds a lot like you. She was just a generally messy person and could never get organized on her own. I used to go over to her house every few months and help her clean up her room, put things where they belonged and sort out what could be thrown away.

Ask a friend if they wouldn’t mind helping you (ideally someone who is more organized). If you are comfortable, ask your mom to help. If neither of those are options, pick a day (it may have to be a whole day if you’re really unorganized) and start cleaning.

Have 3 piles: keep, throw away and donate. Be strict with yourself. Once you figure out what you’re keeping, figure out how it fits into your room in a way that makes sense. Put all of your school stuff in one place with the things you use most at close reach.

As far as not having time, what keeps you from having time to study? Take a serious look and cut out what isn’t really important so you can study.

If you really put your mind to it and are willing to change, you’ll do great!
