My friend, the good thing about English is that we are used to hearing many varieties of English. Many foreigners use it, and in the US in most big cities we hear these foreigners and their versions of English. Yes, it can be hard to understand when a foreigner has poor grammar, or has a very thick foreign accent, but in most places in the US, people are very friendly and patient, especially with Asians because we respect how very hard you have worked to learn our language.

Yes, we are “friendly to a green hand”!

And what you can do is to watch tv and movies in English with English subtitles on, and speak with native English speakers. Just practice and ask questions, and please don’t be shy. You will find people who like to help you, and want to learn about your country.

Good luck to you in the future!

Practice! One thing that can help you develop good grammar on your own, is to expose yourself to good grammar. So, read in English. Newspapers or magazines might be a good place to start, but you can also read books if you’re interested. When you read, take care to notice the grammar that is used. Notice how the words string together, and try to string words together the same way in your own speech.

Anyone who has learned another language should be respected for it, because it’s a lot of hard work. Don’t worry about making little mistakes in your speech, no one will mind! Just do your best to observe and learn from reading and listening to others, and your speech will get better and better with time.

Best of luck to you! ๐Ÿ™‚
