I’m a senior and I am in the bottom 9% of my senior class. Is it possible to bring it up to the top 50%?

I’m a senior in high school, class of ’08. and my class ranking is a 517 out of 567. Which makes me at the bottom 9%. I’m applying for devry university which requires high school students to be in the top 50% class ranking. Is it possible to bring my ranking up from a from the top 91% up to the top 50? Devry is the only school in the state of florida that has the bachelor of science degree in game programming and with online classes. I HAVE to get in there, an, with my class ranking i dont think im good enough for a community college.

I’m scared I won’t get in to devry or any colleges for that matter so is it possible to go raise my rankings? If so, how?

The numbers are definitely NOT in your favor. What are your weak subjects? If they are math and/or English, then you definitely need to get some outside remediation. Straight A’s, is about the ONLY way you’re going to come even close to getting to where you need to be. Start looking at community colleges, take the remedial courses they recommend, and then bring yourself up to where DeVry requires their incoming students to be. The reason they have the requirements they do is they don’t ofer remedial courses, they aren’t in that business.

Do your best !

Try your hardest and make straight A’s from now on. That is all you can do and the best that you can do. If you show the colleges by bringing up your grades that you are a capable student they will want you. Grades and test scores show colleges what your performance will be like in college. Work hard now and make this year fantastic. You can still do it. I’ll cheer for you. I think I was in the top 40-50 % of my class ranking but I did it for all 4 years. It will be hard, but so will college.

(Anyone can get into a community college if you pass the entrance test)

I doubt that it’s really possible to make that kind of class rank jump at this stage, but talk to a guidance counselor as soon as you get back to school (if not sooner) about your situation.

Also, unless Florida community colleges are very unusual, they’ll admit anyone with a high school diploma. The whole point of community colleges is to give people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get into college a shot at higher ed.

Some colleges will also take into account special circumstances that lead to your class rank, as well as an upward trend in grades (in other words, do every honest thing you can to get the highest possible grades your senior year.)

Tell your instructors exactly what you are asking us….also tell them that you would be willing to do whatever it takes to get there. If you are serious about it… Make it happen. Teachers actually want there kids to be successful, but anything worth having is worth working for. If you really want to prove to them that you will do what it takes, ask them if they would be willing to spend time with you after school, or in the evening time, Most teachers would be delighted to hear that from one of his/her students.

Good luck.
