Read several web articles on sandstone, and when what you read begins to sound familiar, stop, think about what you’ve just learned, and put it in your own words. Try to answer these questions in your own words: What is sandstone? Which class of rock (out of three) does it belong to? What does it look and feel like? Where is it found? Can it be used for anything, and if so, what? (Look up the city of Petra on the web.) What is its relation to rocks in the other two classes and to a kind of soil? (Guess what kind of soil SANDstone is related to.) Can you find a sample to include? If you don’t present your essay orally to the class, you can always tape the sample to your paper. But before you start writing (if your essay isn’t due first period tomorrow!), practice telling your family what you’ve learned about sandstone.
